Wow this week absolutely flew by! We had to travel to all the Zone Conferences so that's what we spent most of our week. We did get some work done, but not as much as I wanted to due to all the conferences. For everyone who doesn't know what a zone conference is, every once in a while (like 6 weeks or so) there are miniature conferences with different groups of us missionaries. The purpose of it is to come together and talk about what we can improve on- whether it be the language, using our time effectively, being obedient to the rules, with a central focus on Jesus Christ and His gospel. These conferences are awesome and I always learn a lot.
For my assignment right now, we have to present a training at these conferences which is a lot of fun. This time we focused on helping people resolve their concerns - answering their questions using the Book of Mormon. I learned so much. As a mission we've been focusing on teaching people like Jesus Christ would - not just presenting a "one-size-fits-all" lesson, but asking questions to find people's need and then presenting the gospel as a solution - through coming to church and by reading God's word, the Bible and the Book of Mormon.
As we were giving this training, one missionary shared a few of his thoughts and his own conversion story. He shared about how before he was a member of the church he didn't like the missionaries and avoided them whenever they came to visit his family. After his family was baptized, his Mom and him talked about becoming an eternal family. He shared how he had a hole in his heart about what would happen to his family after death - after he heard about the gospel and the ability to live forever with his family, the spirit touched his heart and he changed.
Every single person has a question or a hole in their heart that they want an answer. Everyone is looking, actively or not, for greater peace and direction in their life. I know that every question has an answer, every problem has a solution. I have no idea what the answers are to every problem, but I know who does.
I really like this scripture in the Book of Mormon: "For the eternal purposes of the Lord shall roll on, until all his promises shall be fulfilled." He has promised us that if we seek, we shall find. If we knock it will be opened to us. If you seem to not find the answers or the peace you are looking for, my invitation is to read from the Book of Mormon. I wouldn't invite you to do it unless I had personally felt peace and answers from it in my life. I promise it's there and the book comes from God, just like the Bible.
